Tipton Green Junior School

Year Profile...

Introduction

In March 2007 the school underwent rigorous inspection by Ofsted. It concluded that the school was a satisfactory school that was rapidly improving. The inspectors were very impressed with the good guidance and support. They observed pupils personal development as good and strength of the school. The level of care was also judged as good. They were also impressed with the fact that pupils were keen to learn and that children of all ages and backgrounds get on well together. The Headteacher and senior staff were judged to provide good leadership and displayed a sharp focus on raising standards and promoting pupils well-being. The overall commitment to improvement was seen as impressive.

The school has undergone a lot of development and change in recent years and has a determined ambition to keep improving. School security and the environment have been greatly improved and there has been a lot of investment in learning resources, particularly in the area of ICT. We have Interactive Whiteboards in every classroom, which is giving extra impact to teaching and learning. There are two separate ICT Suites as well as wireless connectivity between classrooms. All systems are linked to the Internet, the National Grid for Learning and the Learning Gateway via Broadband connections. The school is designated as a Satellite School for the Tipton area, aiming to promote good practice in ICT for Sandwell.

In 2004 the school was successful in securing a bid to upgrade its All -Weather Pitch facilities by Tipton Town Team. We now have an All - Weather Pitch with multi-use games facilities, which now benefits the school and the community. Local teams and clubs are encouraged to use the facilities outside school hours. The Premier Skills Team are currently involved with the school.

Tipton Green Junior School is an open friendly school, which cares strongly about academic standards but also realises that there is more to a good school than these alone. SATs results can be misleading with variance from one year to the next in terms of league table positions. These can hide the untold success stories of children who have made remarkable progress but have fallen a little short of the published expected levels. The school is one of very few nationally to have gained a School Achievement Award from the DFES in 2001, 2002 and 2003. This school is committed to raising standards in all areas of the curriculum!

We were given the prestigious Investor in People Award in 2001 and were successfully re-assessed in 2004 and again in 2007. This indicates our positive commitment to everybody associated with Tipton Green Junior School. We value our staff and pupils and recognise the contribution that everyone makes towards making Tipton Green a successful school.

In March 2006 we gained the Healthy Schools Award - Silver Standard, followed quickly by Platinum Standard and the National Healthy Schools Standard in 2007. Part of the success of this is due to the active school council and its members who fully engage in making positive contributions to the school.
We operate a genuine learning partnership with parents and value the support we receive from parents at home with their children and working in school when commitments allow. You are your child's first educators and as parents you will continue to play a major role in your child's learning and future success. We try to keep our parents as fully informed as possible so that they can be active partners in learning. In addition to newsletters, formal parent's evenings and an annual written report, your child's teacher and other staffing school will try to keep in touch with you. EVERY CHILD MATTERS Our school code of conduct urges children to be safe, be happy, be healthy and achieve. This underpins the general ethos within the school. We believe in a school where we enjoy learning and welcome new and exciting experiences, knowing that learning is a life-long commitment that will provide the skills to help us develop as citizens in our local national and world community. Again, thank you for taking the time to read this. If you would like any further information or the opportunity to come and see the school at work, please do not hesitate to contact us - we will be delighted to show you around.
