Year 3 I can use ... · Finger spaces between words · Capital letters only for the starts of sentences, names and places - NOT in the middle of words · Full stops at the end of sentences · Clear sentences that make sense (re-read it and check!) · A capital letter for the proper noun “I” · The conjunctions “and”, “but”, “so”, “because” and “when” · Correct spellings for all KS1 high frequency and common exception words
Year 4 I can use ... · The 4 types of sentences with the correct punctuation: exclamation marks, question marks and full stops · Apostrophes for contractions · Commas for lists · The conjunctions “for”, “nor”, “or”, “yet”, “if”, “since”, · Consistent use of present or past tense · Inverted commas “ ” to show direct speech · Correct spellings for all KS1 and Year 3 high frequency and common exception words
