Year 6 Residential
Monday 22nd June 2026 - Wednesday 24th June 2026
Welcome to Year 6's blog! We will be sharing updates throughout our stay. Please check back to see all of our adventures!
After a busy and exciting few days, our final morning began with breakfast before we packed up our belongings and worked together to clean our rooms. The children showed great responsibility and teamwork, ensuring everything was left neat and tidy.
We then headed off for our last activity of the residential – canoeing! Setting off along the canal, we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings, keeping a lookout for ducks and passing boats. Steering the canoes proved to be quite a challenge at times, and we often found ourselves drifting towards the bushes as keeping in a straight line took some practice! However, with teamwork, communication, and determination, everyone improved quickly and successfully navigated the route – and best of all, no one fell in!
Three key words truly sum up this residential experience: determination, resilience, and fun. The children demonstrated all of these qualities throughout the trip and should be incredibly proud of themselves.
Despite the warm weather, the children coped really well and embraced every opportunity, making the most of each activity. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow over the course of the residential, and most importantly, they have had a fantastic time.
A big thank you to all the pupils for their enthusiasm, positive attitudes, and excellent behaviour. And a special thank you to the staff who attended and made it possible to give the children such a memorable opportunity.
What a brilliant way to end a fantastic residential!

Day 2

Bedtime wasn’t too late last night, which meant everyone enjoyed a good night’s sleep and woke up refreshed and ready for another full day of activities. Despite the warm weather, the children are coping really well and continuing to show great enthusiasm throughout the day.
We started the morning with a fantastic breakfast to fuel us for the busy schedule ahead. Afterwards, the children took part in their first activity session, climbing and orienteering or archery and axe throwing. It was wonderful to see their confidence growing as they embraced new challenges and supported one another.

Following lunch, everyone headed to the high ropes for an exciting afternoon. The children were able to choose two activities from crate stacking, the power fan jump, and climbing. They showed incredible resilience and determination while tackling these challenges, and it was especially pleasing to see such strong teamwork during the belaying – encouraging each other and working together to stay safe.

To cool off in the heat, Mrs Tromans stepped in with a refreshing spray of water… which quickly turned into the children spraying the teachers too! Lots of laughter and smiles all around made it a highlight of the day.

Dinner this evening was a choice of sausage and mash or mac and cheese – both went down very well after such an active day.
For the evening, the children will take part in some fun emoji games, followed by a visit to the shop and showers to wind down. We’ll then finish the day by watching the England game together, which everyone is really looking forward to.
Another brilliant day full of fun, teamwork, and memorable moments! 😊

Day 1
The Adventure Begins...
Our trip to Laches Wood got off to a great start with a short and easy coach journey. It didn’t take long before we were arriving, full of excitement for the days ahead. Once we got off the coach, we headed straight to our dorms to unpack our bags and get settled in. Making our beds was the first job—some people were quicker than others, but everyone managed in the end! It felt good to get organised before lunch so we could fully enjoy the rest of the day.
After lunch, we had a bit of free time to relax and explore. It was a chance to chat with friends, look around the site, and get used to being somewhere new. Soon enough, it was time to begin our first activity, and everyone was buzzing with anticipation. There were different options to try, including axe throwing, archery, climbing, and orienteering. Each activity brought its own challenges and excitement—whether it was aiming carefully at a target, scaling a climbing wall, or finding your way around using a map.

By the time evening came around, we were definitely ready for dinner. Thankfully, there was something for everyone: burgers or nuggets. The portions were generous, and no one went hungry, which was exactly what we needed after such an active afternoon.
After dinner, we had some more free time. Some people chose to relax and watch the World Cup, cheering on their favourite teams, while others preferred to head outside and make the most of the fresh air. It was a nice balance of winding down and still enjoying time together.

To finish off the day, everyone joined in a big game of hide and seek down in the woods. It was the perfect way to end the evening—running around, laughing, and trying not to get caught in the shadows. The woods added an extra level of excitement, making the game even more fun (and a little bit spooky!).
Overall, it was a fantastic first day at Laches Wood, full of activities, good food, and great memories with friends. We couldn’t wait to see what the rest of the trip would bring!
