Reading is a priority at Tipton Green. It is vital that all children develop expertise in reading so that they can access the wider curriculum and connect with the world around them. Books are structured and levelled set of books written specifically to ensure that every child can take steady and progressive steps towards reading success. Our timetable offers a rich reading provision, including time for individual reading, group reading and class reading as well as reading for pleasure. In addition, we encourage children to read at home frequently, and provide a diary for home/school communication. Phonics, word recognition and language comprehension are explicitly taught where needed through a rich and varied reading programme of texts.

Pupil Voice

Well done to our get caught reading winners who picked out some books for their

Virtual Author Visit

The session encouraged creativity and showed children how authors develop characters using imagination and audience ideas. Everyone really enjoyed the session and felt inspired to create their own stories.
Beanstalk Readers
We are proud to work in partnership with the Coran Beanstalk reading charity, who visit our school each week to inspire and support a love of reading for pleasure.

Book Fair
At our school, we are dedicated to fostering a lifelong love of reading. One of the exciting ways we do this is by hosting a book fair.
The book fair brings a diverse selection of books right to our school, offering children and their families the chance to browse, explore, and discover stories that ignite their imaginations.

Our Library

We love using our beautiful school library, a calm and welcoming space that encourages a love of reading. Each week, children enjoy choosing a new book to take home. Every class has a timetabled weekly library session, where pupils can browse, share recommendations and develop independent reading habits.
Reading Spines
Tipton Green Junior School has chosen the reading spine designed by Doug Lemov based upon his books 'Reading Reconsidered'. This will ensure that all children enjoy a wide range of high quality texts from the five categories: archaic texts, non-linear time sequences, narratively complex, figurative and symbolic language and resistant texts. This reading spine focuses on narrative and poetry and so children will also be provided with a good balance of non-fiction texts to support their learning across the wider curriculum.
