A Scientific Look at Toothpaste in Year 4!

This week, Year 4 became dental detectives! Our science investigation focused on how brushing helps reduce tooth decay and whether different toothpastes have different properties.

We began by learning what tooth decay is and what causes it.

The children carried out a hands-on investigation comparing a range of toothpastes. Working like real scientists, pupils observed and recorded the smell, colour, thickness, and abrasiveness of each toothpaste. They carefully described what they noticed and compared similarities and differences between the samples.

Using their results, the children evaluated which toothpaste they thought would be the most effective for protecting teeth.
