This week, we have applied our learning from our Rainforest Art topic to compose our own artwork. We started by sketching a foreground, middle ground and background. They then used a range of painting techniques for texture, tinting and shading to bring their rainforest paintings to life.

Year 3 had a fantastic time this week in science exploring the rock cycle by using chocolate to model how different types of rocks are formed. We melted, pressed and cooled our chocolate "rocks" to represent igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. It was a fun way to understand how rocks change over millions of years through heat, pressure and erosion!

Our Year 6 Summer Fete was a wonderful celebration filled with laughter, excitement and a real sense of community spirit. Our Year 3 busy bees had a great time retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs outside, ready for their golden write of retelling the story. The small group role played as the different characters and really enjoyed finding examples of sticks, bricks and straw that could be the pigs houses. They also pretended to be the wolf falling down the chimney! We can't wait to share their lovely writing.

In year 3, we had a fantastic time learning all about the ancient Egyptians on our Egyptian day! We learned all about Howard Carter and his discovery of Tutankhamun's tomb, had a go at being excavators ourselves and roleplaying what the discovery would have felt like. Then, we had a go at being real Egyptian scribes, carving our names into clay with hieroglyphs! Then, we learned all about the process of mummification and how that links to Ancient Egyptian religious beliefs.

Year 3 explored the beautiful natural artwork created by Andy Goldsworthy. We began by carefully planning our collage designs, thinking about the shapes, colours and patterns we wanted to include. After sharing our ideas, we collected a range of natural materials and used them to create our own artwork inspired by his famous style. A very excited group of Year 3 and 4 headed to Holly Lodge High to represent Tipton Green. We impressed during the warm-ups and were even asked to demonstrate to other schools how to play cricket and explain the match criteria. Our Year 3 pupils stepped into the spotlight as they filmed themselves reading their very own advert scripts! As part of their learning, the children have been busy writing persuasive adverts to promote a chocolate bar. They carefully chose exciting vocabulary and convincing language to make their products sound irresistible. Pupils confidently read out their advert transcripts.

We were absolutely blown away by the science projects that the children created for the science fair. It was wonderful to see the creativity, curiosity, and effort that went into each project. Our reading ambassadors led an assembly at Silvertrees Infant School. Today, Year 3 had a talk from Mrs Wise and Mrs Gilmore about NCPCC's Pantasaurus. Pantasaurus is a friendly dinosaur character created by the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) to help young children understand an important message about keeping their bodies safe.
