Children’s Mental Health Week provides an important chance to reflect on how we all look after our mental and emotional health. Throughout the week, children have taken part in activities linked to wellbeing, self-expression, and understanding what helps them feel grounded and supported. Today, School council kicked off our Safer Internet Day 2026 with an assembly. They talked about this year's theme - the safe use of artificial intelligence. School council shared with the school why we are taking part in Safer Internet Day, when we might use AI in our day-to-day lives, and also told the school what to do when things go wrong when using artificial intelligence and who to talk to. This week in science, Year 6 explored the components of blood and the important jobs each part performs inside our bodies. To bring our learning to life, we created a model of blood using everyday items: Cheerios represented red blood cells , marshmallows became white blood cells , rice stood in for platelets , and orange squash with a pinch of sugar acted as the plasma . This week, Tipton Green joined in celebrating National Storytelling Week, a special time dedicated to the magic of storytelling. This term, Year 6 have been diving into the fascinating world of ancient civilisations, and one of the highlights of our learning has been our virtual journey to Chichén Itzá—one of the New Seven Wonders of the World ! Using Google Earth, we zoomed across the globe to the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico, where the incredible ruins of Chichén Itzá still stand today. A great start to Cooking Club this spring term for Years 5 and 6! The children made healthy pizzas by spreading tomato purée onto wraps and adding a range of toppings, including mushrooms, peppers, sweetcorn, ham and pepperoni. They practised cutting vegetables carefully and safely, worked well together, and showed responsibility by helping with washing up and cleaning the tables afterwards. It was a slice of fun and a really topping start to the term! 🍕

In science, we carried out an exciting investigation to answer the question: Is yeast a living thing? To test this, we added warm water, one teaspoon of sugar, and a packet of yeast into a bottle, then carefully stretched a balloon over the top. We predicted what might happen and watched closely. Before long, we noticed the balloon beginning to inflate! We learned that the yeast used the sugar for energy and released a gas called carbon dioxide. This gas filled the balloon, c

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed delving into the mysterious story of Daniel Holmes, Mr Silver and the incredible “Nowhere Emporium”. Here is what we have achieved so far. We have written some fantastic setting descriptions based on the opening night of the emporium-we have included sensory imagery and figurative language to book and engage our readers. Exciting things are afoot in Year 6 again this week as we start the new year in style.  The shop from nowhere arrived with the dawn on a crisp, snowy January morning. Word travelled quickly around Tipton Green and by 9 o’clock the place was abuzz with rumours and hearsay. There was a glimmer of movement and a ripple of excitement passed through the crowds. Year 3 Year 4 Children in Year 5 created paper chains with how to be kind on them and they also created a Grinch bauble as a keepsake. They were successful in their attempts to warm up the heart of the Grinch as he bought their presents in the afternoon. This afternoon, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 all took part in an exciting book swap session full of stories, discussion and a real love of reading. The children paired up across year groups and took turns sharing their books, listening carefully as their partners read aloud with expression and confidence. This week Year 6 have taken part in an exciting STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workshop that combined creativity, teamwork and lots of hands-on learning. The challenge? To design and build their very own robots using Lego—and then program them to navigate a tricky maze! The session started with groups planning and constructing their robots. Class 12 had a fantastic time visiting Haden Hill House! The students fully immersed themselves in the experience, enjoying activities like role play, dressing up in historical costumes, and experiencing what it was like to be evacuated to the countryside. They even tried shopping with a ration book, giving them a real taste of life during the war. It was a memorable and educational day, and a wonderful time was had by all!
