Today in science, we carried out an exciting investigation to answer the question: Is yeast a living thing? To test this, we added warm water, one teaspoon of sugar, and a packet of yeast into a bottle, then carefully stretched a balloon over the top. We predicted what might happen and watched closely. Before long, we noticed the balloon beginning to inflate! We learned that the yeast used the sugar for energy and released a gas called carbon dioxide. This gas filled the ball

Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed delving into the mysterious story of Daniel Holmes, Mr Silver and the incredible “Nowhere Emporium”. Here is what we have achieved so far. We have written some fantastic setting descriptions based on the opening night of the emporium-we have included sensory imagery and figurative language to book and engage our readers. We can’t wait to see what we can achieve next. Maybe we have some future authors in our midst? Watch this space!

Exciting things are afoot in Year 6 again this week as we start the new year in style.  The shop from nowhere arrived with the dawn on a crisp, snowy January morning. Word travelled quickly around Tipton Green and by 9 o’clock the place was abuzz with rumours and hearsay. There was a glimmer of movement and a ripple of excitement passed through the crowds. Year 3 Year 4 Children in Year 5 created paper chains with how to be kind on them and they also created a Grinch bauble as a keepsake. They were successful in their attempts to warm up the heart of the Grinch as he bought their presents in the afternoon. Year 6 Children in Year 6 created some Grinch digital art and made a Grinch keepsake!

This afternoon, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 all took part in an exciting book swap session full of stories, discussion and a real love of reading. The children paired up across year groups and took turns sharing their books, listening carefully as their partners read aloud with expression and confidence. This week Year 6 have taken part in an exciting STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workshop that combined creativity, teamwork and lots of hands-on learning. The challenge? To design and build their very own robots using Lego—and then program them to navigate a tricky maze! The session started with groups planning and constructing their robots. Class 12 had a fantastic time visiting Haden Hill House! The students fully immersed themselves in the experience, enjoying activities like role play, dressing up in historical costumes, and experiencing what it was like to be evacuated to the countryside. They even tried shopping with a ration book, giving them a real taste of life during the war. It was a memorable and educational day, and a wonderful time was had by all!

Year 6 have taken a trip into the past to learn all about life on the home front during World War 2. We enjoyed role play, dressing up, being evacuated to the countryside and even shopping with a ration book, a wonderful time was had by all.

On the 11 th  November Year 6 were joined by their parents, carers and family members as they went to the Cenotaph in Victoria Park to pay their respects to those who have fought and are still fighting in wars. The children led a short service and the laid a wreath. The children were very respectful as they observed a two minute silence. It was a moving and meaningful experience for everyone involved, reminding us of the importance of remembrance and gratitude.

This week, our children took part in a special assembly led by the NSPCC  about the importance of staying safe and speaking out. During the session, the children were introduced to Buddy , the NSPCC’s friendly green mascot. Buddy is shaped like a speech bubble to remind us that it’s always important to speak out  if we ever have any worries or if something doesn’t feel right. As we approach the half-term holiday, we are planning a special project to commemorate Remembrance Day. We would like to invite our students to create a poppy at home during the break. These poppies will be part of an outdoor display at school, honouring those who have served and sacrificed for our country.
