Lunchtime Gardeners
As gardening club was cancelled tonight due to the disco, some children volunteered to help in the garden during their lunchtime. Some of the seeds had started to grow into plants, so it was important to move them into our new vegetable patch. First, we made sure the ground was clear of weeds. We carefully removed the plants from their small pots to stop them becoming root bound. The children dug holes, gently loosened some of the roots, planted them into the soil, covered th

Sensory Walk and Seed Planting
The Gardening Club have been working hard to develop the sensory walk by adding more pinecones, white stones, and dried natural materials to create different textures and scents. They also repotted the strawberry plants so they have more space to continue growing. The children planted a variety of vegetable and flower seeds to help encourage wildlife and add colour to the garden. They took the pots home to care for and water, and will bring them back once the seedlings have s

Gardening Club Gets Off to a Great Start in the Sunshine
During our first Gardening Club session, we focused on clearing and preparing the space ready for planting. The children worked together enthusiastically to help transform the area into a welcoming garden space. Some children weeded around the apple tree, carefully removing unwanted plants to give new growth the best chance to thrive, while others prepared the raised planters so we can begin growing a variety of flowers, herbs, and vegetables in the coming weeks. One of the p

Carerpillars in the Classroom!
Year 5 are bringing their learning on life cycles to life by caring for their very own caterpillars. Over the coming weeks, they will observe the fascinating transformation as the caterpillars grow, form chrysalises, and eventually emerge as butterflies. This hands-on experience is a fantastic way to deepen their understanding of life cycles and witness nature in action.

Flower Dissection
In Year 5 Science, children explored plant reproduction through a hands-on investigation. They carefully dissected a tulip, identifying and examining the different parts of the plant involved in reproduction, such as the petals, anther and stigma. This practical activity helped bring their learning to life, allowing them to see first-hand how each part plays a role in the plant’s life cycle.

Science Day Investigations!
Year 4 took part in an exciting investigation linked to our class book Kensuke's Kingdom. We began by asking the question: Why do boats float but rocks sink? The children learned that boats float because their shape allows them to push water aside and spread their weight, while rocks sink because they are dense and cannot displace enough water. The children then designed and made their own paper boats. Before testing them, they predicted how many marbles their boat could hol

Science Fair
We were absolutely blown away by the science projects that the children created for the science fair. It was wonderful to see the creativity, curiosity, and effort that went into each project. The children clearly learned a lot about science while investigating their ideas, and they were very proud to share what they had discovered. They really enjoyed exploring the other projects as well, asking questions and learning from one another. A big well done to all the children for

Healthy Eating Workshop
Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic healthy eating workshop with the school nurses this week. 🥗 The children learnt about the Eatwell Plate and how it helps us to understand the different food groups our bodies need to stay healthy. They explored how fruits and vegetables should make up a large part of our meals, why carbohydrates give us energy, how protein helps our bodies grow and repair, and why dairy supports strong bones and teeth. They also discussed why sugary and fatty foo

A Scientific Look at Toothpaste in Year 4!
This week, Year 4 became dental detectives! Our science investigation focused on how brushing helps reduce tooth decay and whether different toothpastes have different properties. We began by learning what tooth decay is and what causes it. The children carried out a hands-on investigation comparing a range of toothpastes. Working like real scientists, pupils observed and recorded the smell, colour, thickness, and abrasiveness of each toothpaste. They carefully described what

All That Blood
This week in science, Year 6 explored the components of blood and the important jobs each part performs inside our bodies. To bring our learning to life, we created a model of blood using everyday items: Cheerios represented red blood cells , marshmallows became white blood cells , rice stood in for platelets , and orange squash with a pinch of sugar acted as the plasma . As we built our mixtures, we learned that: Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the

Year 6: Is Yeast a Living Thing?
In science, we carried out an exciting investigation to answer the question: Is yeast a living thing? To test this, we added warm water, one teaspoon of sugar, and a packet of yeast into a bottle, then carefully stretched a balloon over the top. We predicted what might happen and watched closely. Before long, we noticed the balloon beginning to inflate! We learned that the yeast used the sugar for energy and released a gas called carbon dioxide. This gas filled the balloon, c

Year 4 Science - Ready, Steady, Digest!
Today, the children recapped their prior learning about human organs and revisited the journey of food through the digestive system. We reminded ourselves of key organs and new scientific vocabulary, thinking carefully about how food moves through the body and changes along the way. To bring the learning to life, the children took part in an energetic “Ready, Steady, Digest!” activity. They followed step-by-step instructions to demonstrate how a banana sandwich is digested, t

Year 4’s New Art Topic
Year 4 have begun an exciting new art topic based on tie-dye and quilt making. We started by learning about the colour wheel, exploring primary, secondary and tertiary colours and how they are created. The children were also introduced to complementary colours and discussed how different colour combinations can be used to create striking designs. This topic links closely with Science, as we learned about Isaac Newton and his discovery of the colour spectrum, helping the child

Year 5 STEM Robot Workshop!
Year 5 have also taken part in an exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workshop that brought together creativity, teamwork and plenty of hands-on learning. Pupils were challenged to design and build their very own robots using Lego—before putting them to the test in a tricky maze challenge! Once the building was complete, the real test began: programming. Using simple coding tools, the children learned how to give their robots precise instructions,

Robots, Mazes and Teamwork for Year 6!
This week Year 6 have taken part in an exciting STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workshop that combined creativity, teamwork and lots of hands-on learning. The challenge? To design and build their very own robots using Lego—and then program them to navigate a tricky maze! The session started with groups planning and constructing their robots. Every team came up with a different design. Once the building was complete, the real test began: programming. U
