Year 4 children have been exploring instruction texts in English. We began by watching ice-cream sundaes being made, then wrote our equipment lists and step-by-step methods. Today, Year 3 were transported through a magical portal into a world of dragons and magic! They had the experience of looking at a magical new world, where a dragon stands guard over a feast of fruit and cakes. This was all part of our stimulus for our new writing unit based on the text 'elf road', a magical short story about a young boy who goes through a portal and meets mysterious elves guarding a magical feast.

This week, Tipton Green joined in celebrating National Storytelling Week, a special time dedicated to the magic of storytelling. Throughout the week, our students explored new worlds, sparked their imaginations, and connected with each other through reading. Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed National Storytelling  Week 2026. Tipton Green watched an exciting virtual assembly with children’s author Ross Montgomery. Ross is a well-known author of children’s books, including The Midnight Guardians , I Am Rebel  and Space Tortoise . He writes imaginative stories full of adventure and humour and enjoys inspiring children to become confident readers and writers. Children in Year 4 were horrified to discover that the book corners in their classrooms had been wrecked. Pages had been torn from books, leaving the scene in complete disarray. Luckily, CCTV footage captured the culprit: a mysterious figure wearing a hooded cloak, with their face hidden from view. Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed delving into the mysterious story of Daniel Holmes, Mr Silver and the incredible “Nowhere Emporium”. Here is what we have achieved so far. We have written some fantastic setting descriptions based on the opening night of the emporium-we have included sensory imagery and figurative language to book and engage our readers. Exciting things are afoot in Year 6 again this week as we start the new year in style.  The shop from nowhere arrived with the dawn on a crisp, snowy January morning. Word travelled quickly around Tipton Green and by 9 o’clock the place was abuzz with rumours and hearsay. There was a glimmer of movement and a ripple of excitement passed through the crowds. This afternoon, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 all took part in an exciting book swap session full of stories, discussion and a real love of reading. The children paired up across year groups and took turns sharing their books, listening carefully as their partners read aloud with expression and confidence. Our reading ambassadors confidently stood in front of the whole school and shared the story of The Grinch, setting the perfect tone for our Christmas-themed week starting on Monday. Their enthusiasm and clear reading helped bring the story to life, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school.
