Children in Year 4 were horrified to discover that the book corners in their classrooms had been wrecked. Pages had been torn from books, leaving the scene in complete disarray. Luckily, CCTV footage captured the culprit: a mysterious figure wearing a hooded cloak, with their face hidden from view.
The children used a wide range of adjectives, expanded noun phrases and modifiers to describe the appearance and personality of possible suspects, creating vivid and imaginative descriptions (and plenty of smiles along the way!). This exciting mystery linked perfectly to the story we have been reading, The Lost Happy Endings by Carol Ann Duffy. As a result, the children were highly interested, motivated and fully engaged in their learning.
