Father's Day Celebrations in Year 5

Planet Proportions in Year 5!
Year 5 have been exploring the relative sizes of the planets in our solar system using play dough and rulers. The children were amazed by how little matter Mercury has compared to the other planets! They found dividing the play-dough "sausage" into fifths quite challenging, as there was so little to work with. It was wonderful to see great measuring skills, problem-solving, and perseverance in action throughout the lesson.

Year 5 Digital Art
Children participated in a fun Digital Art workshop using IPads today which was kindly led by Mr Ashton from Engagedu. We have some fantastic artists in Year 5! Carerpillars in the Classroom!
Year 5 are bringing their learning on life cycles to life by caring for their very own caterpillars. Over the coming weeks, they will observe the fascinating transformation as the caterpillars grow, form chrysalises, and eventually emerge as butterflies. This hands-on experience is a fantastic way to deepen their understanding of life cycles and witness nature in action.

Flower Dissection
In Year 5 Science, children explored plant reproduction through a hands-on investigation. They carefully dissected a tulip, identifying and examining the different parts of the plant involved in reproduction, such as the petals, anther and stigma. Year 5 Visit Carding Mill Valley
As part of their Raging Rivers Geography topic, Year 5 visited Carding Mill Valley to explore river features in a real-life setting. The children took part in a guided walk, a river study and river dipping, supported by National Trust volunteers. World Book Day 2026
We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day in school. The children came dressed as their favourite book characters, and it was fantastic to see so many creative costumes around the school. Reading Week
Our reading ambassadors led an assembly at Silvertrees Infant School. Safer Internet Day
Today, School council kicked off our Safer Internet Day 2026 with an assembly. They talked about this year's theme - the safe use of artificial intelligence. School council shared with the school why we are taking part in Safer Internet Day, when we might use AI in our day-to-day lives, and also told the school what to do when things go wrong when using artificial intelligence and who to talk to.
