Let’s Get to the Root of It!

Today in Science, Year 4 learnt all about our teeth. We talked about what we need to do to keep our teeth healthy and what happens when we visit the dentist. We then looked closely at our own teeth using mirrors. We identified the different types of teeth in our mouths and explored how they vary in shape, size and position.

We learned about incisors, canines, premolars and molars and discussed the different jobs each type of tooth does. We discovered that our teeth are not all the same because they are designed to help us bite, cut, tear and grind our food.

We then got creative and used Play-Doh to make our own models of teeth. We carefully considered the different shapes and sizes and tried to recreate the teeth we had observed. This hands-on activity helped us to understand how the structure of each tooth is linked to its function.
