Year 6 became blood experts in Science! We explored the circulatory system and learned about the important job that blood does in keeping our bodies alive and healthy. To help us understand what blood is made of, we even made our own models of blood using everyday materials.

First, we learned that blood is made up of four main components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Each part has a special job. To create our blood models, we used different ingredients to represent each component. As we carefully added each part, we discussed how they work together to keep our bodies functioning. It was fascinating to see how much of our blood is actually plasma and how tiny blood cells can have such important jobs.

The practical investigation helped bring our learning to life. We were able to visualise what blood looks like beneath the surface and understand why it is so important to our health.

We had lots of fun getting hands-on with our learning and were amazed by how complex and incredible the human body is. Ask a Year 6 scientist to tell you the four components of blood and their functions. We are sure they will impress you with their knowledge!
