We are proud of the diversity at Tipton Green and the rich range of cultures that make our school such a special place. On Friday 6th November, we celebrated Culture Day, with pupils across the school taking part in a wide range of exciting activities. From art and cooking to dance and music, the children explored different cultures, shared experiences and celebrated the diversity within our school community. Take a look at some of the fantastic activities each year group enjoyed!

Year 4 had a fantastic time celebrating Japanese Culture Day! Throughout the day, the children explored the fascinating country of Japan, learning about its traditions, culture, food, language and art.

We began by locating Japan on a world map and discovering interesting facts about Japanese life, including its famous landmarks, traditions and schools. The children also enjoyed learning to count from 1 to 10 in Japanese and practising some simple Japanese greetings, including Konnichiwa (hello) and Arigatou (thank you). They had great fun trying out their new language skills!

One of the highlights of the day was making our very own sushi! The children used traditional Japanese ingredients, including seaweed (nori), carrots, cucumber, avocado and sushi rice. They carefully arranged their ingredients on sheets of seaweed before using bamboo rolling mats to roll their sushi, just as it is traditionally prepared in Japan. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning this new skill and were very proud of their finished sushi rolls!

The children also explored the Japanese art of origami, developing their patience and concentration as they carefully folded paper to create different shapes.

In art, the children learnt about the famous Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, best known for his artwork The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Inspired by his work, the children created their own Japanese-style artwork.

Year 4 also explored haiku poetry, a traditional form of Japanese poetry. They enjoyed using descriptive vocabulary and following the 5-7-5 syllable pattern to create their own poems.

It was a wonderful day filled with creativity, curiosity and new experiences. The children showed great enthusiasm, developed their understanding of another culture and thoroughly enjoyed trying something different.

Well done, Year 4, for embracing Japanese Culture Day with such excitement and enthusiasm!

Year 6 pupils enjoyed an exciting Bollywood dance workshop with Aaja Nachle Let's Dance. The children explored traditional and modern Indian dance styles, learning a lively Bollywood routine before showcasing their moves in a fantastic performance. Dressed in colourful outfits, the children embraced the music, celebrated Indian culture and had lots of fun dancing together!
