Year 4 pupils took part in an exciting and creative animation workshop led by Engagedu, where they explored both digital drawing and stop‑motion animation techniques.
The workshop began with pupils using iPads and a stylus to design their own stick‑figure characters using the app Flipkit. They learned how to duplicate their drawings, erase selected parts of the image, and make small changes to each frame. By repeating this process, pupils created simple animations of their stick figures waving and throwing a ball, developing an understanding of how movement is created through a sequence of images.
Later in the session, pupils were introduced to stop‑motion animation using the software Koma Koma. Working carefully frame by frame, they photographed a small dinosaur figure, adjusting its position slightly between each image. When played back, the individual frames came together to create a smooth animated sequence, helping pupils to see how patience and precision are key to successful animation.
The workshop was an excellent opportunity for Year 4 to develop their computing skills, creativity, and teamwork.
