Friday 7th March

On 7th March, Year 6 embarked on a delightful journey to Cadbury World in Bournville, and what an unforgettable experience it turned out to be! With excitement buzzing in the air, we boarded the coach, ready to dive into the fascinating world of chocolate.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the delicious aroma of chocolate wafting through the air, which instantly prepared us for the adventures to come. The tour began with a captivating introduction to the history of chocolate, where we learned about its origins. We took a blast into the past and found out how it was farmed and used by the ancient Maya. We then moved through time to learn about the modern-day chocolate bars that we all love. The interactive exhibits were a hit, allowing the children to engage with the rich history of Cadbury.

One of the many highlights of the trip was undoubtedly the ‘Chocolate Tasting’ experience.  Where the children were able to watch the chocolate being made using traditional methods and were then able to sample a pot of melted chocolate with toppings of their own choosing- this received a big thumbs up from us all!

After powering up with a delectable treat we continued our journey through the different zones of Cadbury World, we were treated to a fun interactive ride and a delightful 4D cinema experience. The short film provided an immersive journey into the chocolate-making process, complete with thrilling effects that made everyone laugh and cheer. It was a sensory treat that left the children buzzing with excitement- it felt just like being on a rollercoaster ride through rivers of chocolate.

After a fun-filled morning and a picnic lunch we enjoyed our history workshop all about The Maya. We learned so much about the cacao pods. We learned how the cocoa beans were dried and roasted before a metate was used to grind it into a paste. Maize, chillies, honey and water were then added to the paste before it was frothed to create a delicious,  warm drink! This made our mouths water.  We also discovered lots more about the Maya and their ancient civilization, which we look forward to using in our future history lessons.

This trip not only provided a fun-filled day for our Year 6 children but also enriched their understanding of the history of the Maya.

As we look back on our adventure at Cadbury World, it's clear that this trip was more than just a day out; it was an experience that will stay with our Year 6 children for years to come. We can't wait to see what other exciting adventures await us in the future!

Stay tuned for more updates about our school trips and activities!
