Manny Singh Kang visited Tipton Green today to lead a special assembly for pupils, sharing his inspiring fundraising journey and encouraging children to believe they can make a difference in their community.
The big-hearted football fan has raised more than £260,000 for Dementia UK through events including his regular Samosa Saturdays.
A lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. supporter, Manny launched his first Samosa Saturday outside his beloved club’s home ground, Molineux Stadium, in 2018. He and his family cooked hundreds of home-made samosas to sell to fans, raising £3,000 for the charity.
Since then, he has gone on to raise more than a quarter of a million pounds through further Samosa Saturdays and a range of physical challenges. Manny has run marathons and scaled the Three Peaks. In 2022, he walked 125 miles from Molineux to Stamford Bridge, home of Chelsea F.C., and earlier this year he walked 192 miles from Wolverhampton to St James' Park.
His most recent fundraiser saw him complete a non-stop, 48-hour walk around Molineux in September. He was joined by supporters ranging from local schoolchildren to Robert Plant, the Led Zeppelin icon and fellow Wolves fan. Despite heavy rain and flooding across the West Midlands, Manny persevered without sleep, saying: “Every step I take is a step closer to a little more comfort for those people who are living with this condition.”
Looking ahead, Manny revealed his next challenge will be one of his toughest yet — walking all the way from Wolverhampton to London and then completing the London Marathon immediately afterwards, without rest. He told pupils that pushing his limits is all part of raising awareness and vital funds for families affected by dementia.
Speaking during the assembly, Manny explained that his faith and lifestyle give him the strength to continue. “All the challenges are mental challenges. That strength I get from my faith, my way of life and support from other people. When you focus on the people we are helping, it builds your mentality and helps you perform these chaotic things.”
