Network Rail Safety Day

On Monday 18th May, children took part in an engaging and informative Network Rail Safety Day. Throughout the day, pupils explored how to stay safe on and around railways through a range of interactive lessons, quizzes, discussions, videos and practical activities.

The children learned about the importance of following safety signs, using level crossings safely and understanding the dangers of railway tracks, overhead cables and electrified rails. They were surprised to discover how fast trains travel, how long they take to stop and that some trains can be almost silent when approaching. Pupils also discussed how to stay safe at train stations, including standing behind safety lines, listening carefully to announcements and never attempting to retrieve items from the tracks.

As part of the activities, children explored different railway safety signs and learned what they mean and where they may be seen. They also designed posters and completed tasks linked to real-life railway scenarios, encouraging them to think carefully about how to make safe choices near railways and level crossings.

The day was both educational and enjoyable, and the children demonstrated fantastic enthusiasm and maturity when discussing important safety messages. They finished the day with a much greater understanding of how to stay “Switched On and Safe” around railways.
