Spring 2025 - Issue 8

Dear Families,
Welcome to the second newsletter of the Spring term, it is flying by and I can hardly believe it is the beginning of February already.
It has been fantastic to see so many children attending the booster sessions which are running this term for Year 6 pupils. We are sure children will benefit from these, building on their learning and increasing their confidence with tackling the ‘trickier’ aspects of their curriculum in preparation for the SATs.
Thank you to those families who were able to attend our recent Multiplication test workshop for Year 4 pupils. It was lovely to see so many there and we hope you found them useful. Over the next few weeks, we will be holding further opportunities in different areas of learning so please keep your eyes out for further information regarding these. This week, Year 3 parents have the opportunity to come into school to see how we teach maths and how you can support your children at home with this. We hope to see you all there.
Pupils in Year 4 will be testing out their cooking skills while on their trip to Hockerhill Play Barn today and tomorrow, while the whole school is looking forward to Friday when we will all be 'Dressing to Express'. I can't wait to see everyone's unique personalities shine through.
As we begin the last two weeks of this half term, can I remind all parents that school is closed to pupils on Monday 24th February for staff training. Pupils will return on Tuesday 25th February.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mrs Richards
Attendance
We track attendance weekly in school and monitor pupils attendance which is falling below 96%. We appreciate that the colder weather brings lots of cold and flu, however please consider Leave of Absence requests carefully and arrange a meeting with school before booking any time out of school during the term time. We want to ensure that we provide the best possible education we can and this starts with excellent attendance.
This week, our whole school attendance was 94.5%.
Year Group | % Attendance up to 1.02.25 |
Year 3 | 94.88% - Well done Year 3 |
Year 4 | 93.96% |
Year 5 | 94.67% |
Year 6 | 94.51% |
Mental Health Week

This week, on Friday 7th February, pupils are being asked to ’Dress to Express’ in order to raise money of Place2Be.
Place2Be is a children’s mental health charity with over 30 years’ experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools. They provide mental health support in schools through one-to-one and group counselling, using tried and tested methods backed by research. In the last school year, Place2Be supported over 45,000 children and more than 14,000 children and young people benefitted from their targeted clinical support.
Place2Be’s approach to children’s and young people’s mental health is to intervene early to prevent life-long mental health issues. They do this by:
· Providing support early, spotting mental health problems before they develop and helping children and young people cope with challenges throughout their lives.
· Using an effective therapeutic approach backed by research that combines several ways of working.
· Offering a range of mental health support services, including advice and support for families and school staff, to build resilience and raise awareness of mental health across the whole school community.
If you would like more information and what Place2Be offer, visit their website at www.place2be.org.uk.
Online Safety Workshops
Unfortunately the Online Internet Safety workshops in February were cancelled however, they have been re-arranged for Tuesday 4th March at 2pm. We hope that you are able to attend these valuable sessions, learning about ways to keep your children safe in these changing times.
On this day, pupils in Year 5 and 6 will also take part in workshops to help them develop a deeper understanding of the internet and how to stay safe.
Patrick Flynn, our Online Safety Advisor, has shared this quick and informative SWAY, which gives you some important information on how to ensure you have the correct controls on your devices. Please take a few moments to read through this:

Homework
Thank you so much for the wonderful homework that has been coming into school already this term. We are so proud of the effort that children are putting in and know that every little bit helps your children to succeed. Here is some of the brilliant work that is being completed by Year 3 children as part of their English learning. They were inspired by Ted Hughes', The Iron Man, to create their own models at home.
World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 6th March and would like to invite pupils to dress as a book character on that day. Further information will be sent out soon, including details of the book fair which will be happening during the same week.
