Today, the children at Tipton Green Junior School came together to mark Remembrance Day with respect and thoughtfulness. In preparation for the occasion, pupils created their own poppies and planted them outside to form a striking giant display.
The whole school gathered outdoors, where the School Council reminded everyone why we pause to remember. They read the final verse of “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon — words that are spoken at Remembrance services and parades across the country. At the end, the children joined together to repeat the line: “We will remember them.”
We were honoured to welcome Giles Robinson, who played the bugle during the service. He performed The Last Post to mark the beginning of the two-minute silence, as our House Captains lowered the flag. The children observed the silence with great respect, and the bugle was played once more to mark its end, as the flag was raised.
To conclude the service, Mrs Richards spoke to the children and praised them for their excellent behaviour and the dignity with which they took part in today’s act of remembrance.
