Year 4’s New Art Topic

Year 4 have begun an exciting new art topic based on tie-dye and quilt making. We started by learning about the colour wheel, exploring primary, secondary and tertiary colours and how they are created. The children were also introduced to complementary colours and discussed how different colour combinations can be used to create striking designs.

This topic links closely with Science, as we learned about Isaac Newton and his discovery of the colour spectrum, helping the children understand how colour and light work together.

We also explored a little history, learning that tie-dye has its origins in Asia many centuries ago, before becoming especially popular in the 1960s, when it was used as a form of self-expression and creativity.

Over the coming lessons, the children will be designing and creating their own tie-dye square as part of a collaborative quilt. They will experiment with a range of colours and learn different tie-dye techniques, such as spiral and bullseye, to create a variety of effects.

The children have shown great enthusiasm and creativity, and we are looking forward to seeing their final designs come together as a colourful quilt. 🎨✨
