Year 4 had a fantastic trip to Hockerhill Play Barn, where they took part in a hands-on session learning how to make pizza dough — a fun and practical introduction to their next Design and Technology topic: bread-making.
The children practised key skills such as mixing ingredients, kneading the dough and stretching it out to create a smooth pizza base. These are the same techniques they’ll be using next half term when they make their own bread, so the experience gave them a valuable head start.
They also discovered the history behind the Margherita pizza, which was created in honour of Queen Margherita of Italy. The pizza was designed to reflect the colours of the Italian flag, using green basil, red tomato, and white mozzarella.
Alongside their pizza-making, the children enjoyed time on the indoor and outdoor play equipment — racing around on go-karts, climbing, sliding, and exploring the exciting tunnels and pipelines. It was a brilliant day full of learning, movement, and creativity!
