Spring 2025 - Issue 9

Dear Families,

We have come to the end of a busy term of learning and we are all proud of the progress the pupils have made. Last week, Leaders from our Trust visited school to visit classrooms and watch the learning that was taking place at Tipton Green. They were extremely impressed with the positive attitude shown by all pupils and how well behaved our pupils are.

As part of Number Day last week, two pupils from Year 3 visited Elston Hall Primary School to take part in a Trust Maths Quiz. We were so proud of their hard work coming a fantastic 4th place - well done! The whole school also took part in a Times Table Rock Stars competition. Congratulations to class 1, class 5, class 7 and class 12 who scored the most points for their year group. The most valuable players who have earned the most points for their year group are:

Year 3 Arjus

Year 4 Aeden

Year 5 Gracie

Year 6 Nathan

After the half term holidays, we have a lot to look forward to including trips to the Black Country Museum, Carding Mill Valley and World Book Day. Have a lovely break with your families and we will look forward to seeing the pupils return on Tuesday 25th February.

Mrs Richards

Attendance

We track attendance weekly in school and monitor pupils attendance which is falling below 96%. We appreciate that the colder weather brings lots of cold and flu, however please consider Leave of Absence requests carefully and arrange a meeting with school before booking any time out of school during the term time. We want to ensure that we provide the best possible education we can and this starts with excellent attendance.

This week, our whole school attendance was 94.53%.

Internet Safety Day

This year the theme for Internet Safety Day is 'Too Good to be True?'. Pupils have been considering how they will be able to spot scams online and how to keep themselves safe while using the internet. Here are some key messages from Safer Internet UK: https://saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/safer-internet-day-2025/tips-for-parents-and-carers

Tips for Parents and Carers: Keeping you and your loved ones safe online

This Safer Internet Day we are starting a conversation about how to spot, respond to and report all types of scams online. Scams can take many forms and may target anyone, including young people. Use these top tips to keep you and your loved ones safe online.

Enjoy going online together and talk regularly about your family’s online lives

The internet is amazing and can help us all to access information and entertainment. Spend time online with your child to understand how they are using technology and talk together about the good and the bad parts of being online. Talk about your own experiences and find other opportunities to get the conversation started, like stories in the news. Make sure your child knows they can talk to you about anything that they see or experience online.

Take online security measures seriously

The internet can be a tool used by criminals to target their victims, but a few simple steps can help keep you and your accounts secure. Use strong and separate passwords for online accounts and set up two step verification (2SV) where it’s available. You may also be able to set parental controls to prevent unwanted online purchases and limit children’s access to harmful content.

Look out for warning signs that someone or something online cannot be trusted

“It just seems too good to be true!” – Other common signs of a scam include contact that you weren’t expecting or being asked for money or personal information (think: bank or contact details, passwords, or phone numbers). Scammers use other tactics to manipulate their victims into paying, like playing with your emotions, or building a sense of urgency so you are rushed into making a decision. If you aren’t sure it’s reliable, don’t risk it.

Remember that anyone can be a victim of a scam

Scammers are good at what they do and will target anyone. We all need to stay vigilant and support those who are most vulnerable including children and the elderly by helping them recognise what to look out for. If anyone in your family has been scammed, talk openly about it. There should be no shame in being victim to a scam and it’s never your fault.

Know where to get help if something goes wrong

If you or someone you know has been the victim of a scam online, you’re not on your own. Help is available and you are not to blame for what has happened. In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can report fraud and cyber crime online to Action Fraud or by telephoning 0300 123 2040. In Scotland, report to Police Scotland by calling 101. You may also be able to report via social media, if the scam has taken place there or to another relevant organisation, like your bank, if you think your account is at risk.Remember, if you or anyone else is in immediate danger, call 999 immediately.

Parent Workshop

Thank you to all the parents and families who were able to join us for our Parent Workshops over the last couple of weeks. It was fantastic to see so many taking part whether it was for Maths or our Year 6 SATs meeting. We are committed to ensuring that we work closely with families to make sure you are able to support your children at home and would therefore welcome any feedback you are able to give so that we can continue to develop and improve this area of our work. If you were not able to join us for these meetings, the slides will be available on the school website for you to view in your own time.

Healthy Eating School

School is proud to be able to provide all pupils both a healthy breakfast and fruit at breaktime for free. Please can you ensure that any snacks and packed lunches are healthy choices for pupils to eat. Sweets and fizzy drinks are not allowed in school and we would appreciate your support in ensuring pupils have water to drink during lesson time. Pupils are able to bring squash to drink at lunchtime with their meal, however staff will be encouraging pupils to drink water at all other times of the day.

Can I also remind families that nuts and products containing nuts such as peanut butter, coconut and Nutella are not allowed in school due to pupils and adults who have allergies to these. Thank you for your support with this.

Reading Resources

Engaging a love of reading is so important to improve pupils success in this area of the curriculum. Over the half term, why not visit the school website for reading resources and ideas! Follow this link to find lots of information on how we teach reading, as well as tips on how to support your child at home.

Mental Health Week

Last week, children across school took part in activities designed to help them understand how to express themselves and how important it is to recognise and celebrate all our differences. On Friday, pupils began to think about their own personalities and what made them unique. Here are some of our personality islands that express who we are. Year 6 pupils worked hard to apply their computer skills while Year 4 pupils drew their ideas using their art skills.

World Book Day

We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 6th March and would like to invite pupils to dress as a book character on that day. Further information has now been sent out and can be found in 'Letters' on the website.
