Year 4 have been busy getting creative as they designed and made special Father's Day cards for the important people in their lives. The children created superhero-themed cards, using their cutting, folding and decorating skills to produce unique designs. On the outside, the cards looked like smart shirts, but when opened they revealed a colourful superhero emblem inside. We’ve just left London after a fantastic afternoon of sightseeing in the sunshine! The children have been amazing and have walked over 4 miles today. We enjoyed a play in the park at St James’s Park and even had a front-row view of the Changing of the Guard thanks to a very kind police officer. Our Year 3 busy bees had a great time retelling the story of the Three Little Pigs outside, ready for their golden write of retelling the story. The small group role played as the different characters and really enjoyed finding examples of sticks, bricks and straw that could be the pigs houses. They also pretended to be the wolf falling down the chimney! We can't wait to share their lovely writing.

Children enjoyed a very important water safety assembly delivered by a lifeguard from our local swimming pool. The assembly taught children how to stay safe in and around water, particularly during the warmer months when more people visit rivers, lakes, canals, and other open water areas. The lifeguard explained the dangers of swimming in open water and shared practical advice on what to do in an emergency. Children learned about the importance of only swimming in supervised

Year 5 have been exploring the relative sizes of the planets in our solar system using play dough and rulers. The children were amazed by how little matter Mercury has compared to the other planets! They found dividing the play-dough "sausage" into fifths quite challenging, as there was so little to work with. It was wonderful to see great measuring skills, problem-solving, and perseverance in action throughout the lesson.

The children tackled a tricky tutorial to create an optical oval illusion! It took plenty of concentration, careful and perseverance, but the results were fantastic. The first image shows the tutorial example, followed by our own unique interpretations.

Children participated in a fun Digital Art workshop using IPads today which was kindly led by Mr Ashton from Engagedu. We have some fantastic artists in Year 5! Children used the app Sketch Book and investigated with a variety of colours and textures. They also learnt how to create a multi-layered image! Despite the rainy weather, we had a lovely turnout for our Coffee Morning at Tipton Green. Parents enjoyed a selection of delicious cakes while having the opportunity to chat, connect with others, and spend time together in a welcoming environment. We were also pleased to welcome members of the Eat Well Team and the Family Support Hub, who spoke with parents and shared valuable information, advice, and support available to families. Year 5 have begun their exciting new art topic: Cakes! This week, the children used charcoal pencils to produce observational drawings of a variety of cakes, carefully experimenting with texture, line and tone to bring their sketches to life.

It was Year 6's turn for Sports Day! They had great fun participating in a variety of events, showing enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and determination throughout.

Today, our Year 5 children enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day this morning, followed by Year 4 this afternoon. The children took part in a range of exciting events, including the bean bag race, sack race, egg and spoon race, skipping race, javelin, long jump and the always-popular relay race to finish the day. After enjoying a well-earned half-term break, Gardening Club visited the Secret Garden to see how much had changed since we were last at school. The children were excited to discover that many of the vegetables in our vegetable patch had started to grow, and the herbs were looking healthy too. Today, two school nurses set up an informative and interactive sun safety stand in the school playground to provide help, advice, and support to children and parents about staying safe in the sun. The colourful display attracted lots of interest and helped raise awareness about the importance of protecting skin during the warmer months.
