Year 4 children took part in an exciting SPARKS visit delivered by firefighters from the local fire station. The presentation focused on important fire and road safety messages in a fun and engaging way. During the session, the children watched a short film showing how quickly fire can spread and learned valuable information about smoke detectors, escape plans, emergency calls, fire hazards, and what to do if clothing catches fire using the “stop, drop and roll” technique. Year 3 explored the beautiful natural artwork created by Andy Goldsworthy. We began by carefully planning our collage designs, thinking about the shapes, colours and patterns we wanted to include. After sharing our ideas, we collected a range of natural materials and used them to create our own artwork inspired by his famous style. The Tipton Green Junior School Local History Fayre is a community event celebrating 50 years of memories connected to Tipton Green Junior School from 1976–2026. Organised by the Tipton Town Libraries Local History Group, the event invites former pupils, families, friends, and sports team members to share photographs, memories, and stories from their time at the school. Visitors are encouraged to bring along old pictures and reminisce about classroom moments, sporting achievem

The competition is open to current and former pupils of the school. Entrants must write a poem about school or schooldays. Poems can be in any style, including dialect, and must be no more than 20 lines long. There is a £50 first prize, and some poems will be published in a book later in the year. The Gardening Club have been working hard to develop the sensory walk by adding more pinecones, white stones, and dried natural materials to create different textures and scents. They also repotted the strawberry plants so they have more space to continue growing. The children planted a variety of vegetable and flower seeds to help encourage wildlife and add colour to the garden. A very excited group of Year 3 and 4 headed to Holly Lodge High to represent Tipton Green. We impressed during the warm-ups and were even asked to demonstrate to other schools how to play cricket and explain the match criteria. We created early chances that settled us nicely into the game. 2 quick goals came half way through the first half to take a 2-0 lead into half time. Second half started and Uplands had the advantage. During our first Gardening Club session, we focused on clearing and preparing the space ready for planting. The children worked together enthusiastically to help transform the area into a welcoming garden space. Some children weeded around the apple tree, carefully removing unwanted plants to give new growth the best chance to thrive, while others prepared the raised planters so we can begin growing a variety of flowers, herbs, and vegetables in the coming weeks. Our wonderful Wellbeing Ambassadors proudly showcased their day at the SHAPE event. It was fantastic to see them confidently and enthusiastically sharing their experiences and the valuable information they learned.

Year 5 are bringing their learning on life cycles to life by caring for their very own caterpillars. Over the coming weeks, they will observe the fascinating transformation as the caterpillars grow, form chrysalises, and eventually emerge as butterflies. This hands-on experience is a fantastic way to deepen their understanding of life cycles and witness nature in action.

In Year 5 Science, children explored plant reproduction through a hands-on investigation. They carefully dissected a tulip, identifying and examining the different parts of the plant involved in reproduction, such as the petals, anther and stigma. This practical activity helped bring their learning to life, allowing them to see first-hand how each part plays a role in the plant’s life cycle.

After-school clubs are now in full swing. In 3D Illusion Art Club, children took on the challenge of creating a freehand drawing of a Penrose triangle. Following an online tutorial, they showed impressive focus and patience, carefully working through each step to achieve the optical illusion effect. Our Year 3 pupils stepped into the spotlight as they filmed themselves reading their very own advert scripts! As part of their learning, the children have been busy writing persuasive adverts to promote a chocolate bar. Year 4 took part in the TCS Mini Marathon, where they completed laps of the pitch and playground, raising awareness of the importance of running together, staying active, and having fun through exercise.
